[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of this month.  Because not everyone is into parties, ok.

[ alanna has a problem.

the problem is this magic. she can remember, clearly, the warning maude had given her before she'd departed to her knight's training: heal. heal to make up for all that blood she'd shed as a knight, because it would never be enough, but by god she had a gift and she had to use it like any of her others.

but it scares her. she's seen what magic can do, seen the way it corrupted duke roger and what a monster he was in the way he used it, and having it inside of her alone is enough to make her skin itch.

and yet, every time a mission party returns, the first place she goes is the infirmary to change bandages and make use of the skills learned down in the river drell during the scanran war. and, if it's bad enough, to let purple tendrils of energy flow into them and pour her own energy through magic into them and repair the damage. it's rarely bad enough. it had taken until jon was on his deathbed for the sweating sickness to draw her magic out of her, and it would take precisely that much to draw it out of her now.

which was precisely why she dodged the infirmary and dodged other members of the dragon's light lest she be dragged into training to make use of her undeniable gifts.

and her biggest problem is that she's not particularly subtle in how she avoids. ]

[Taradiddle isn't even a squire yet, but she tends to lurk near the infirmary as well. She is a cleric, after all. These are her people.

But she hasn't been a knight..... um, at all, yet so she's being a little lurky as she watches people work. Lurky, and covered in a grey cloak. And tiny.

Yeah, she's pretty hard to spot (hide 24) so unless Alanna's got her eyes wide, wide open, she might trip.]

[ yeah her spot is 12 so alanna runs straight into her. she doesn't trip, because she's actually ... too short to, at about 5'0", but she does start swearing in surprise and then immediately follow it up with sheepish apologies. ]

[Junior cleric in the house. Well, junior something. She's squired, she doesn't know what she is. Except that she's going to be a cleric, regardless of the effect is may have on her sanity. So there.

Which is why she is not avoiding the Dragon's Light wing. She's also not.. paying attention at all, fiddling with her silver necklace (she had a spoon, but charmed spoons are just useless in all honesty) and muttering to herself about some saint (Vincent) and some bond (hers) and something else that trails off into her veering off to the side when she looks up and sees red.

Hair.

That's a person. She really needs to pay attention while she is walking. Her face shows how startled she is, being pulled out of the wanderings of her mind.] Oh, sorry!

[ alanna's reassurance comes with a smile, and a quick step back. she holds up her hands, placating, and dismisses it. she'd been on her way out in a hurry, not wanting to get grabbed by anyone who might demand practice or training or magic of her, while lissa was heading in, head-down.

and she really, absolutely does want to leave, but she stops at the sight of the squire, easily identified. ]

You're new, right? And already praying like the rest of them. [ she's not big on the praying. she has faithful, he can give her the fyi on her spells and shit ok. ]

[ Not subtle at all, really. Because someone comes a'knockin' on her door one day. Time for a chat. ]

[ oh balls. alanna edges to the door of her room in the dragon's light wing, cracking the door and peering around it. when she sees sir solace's face, she grimaces, but pulls the door open. ]

Good day, Sir.

[ it's said in a submissive way as she steps to the side reluctantly. she'd learned her lessons in tortall well enough, knights were to listen and respect their superiors, and solace was certainly that. ]

[ it was a hell of a mission. across the globe all different ways, using a compass that pointed towards whatever you most desired, and charming had managed to take a scary-powerful witch home with him as his russian mail-order bride, while emma couldn't even take away the compass, let alone a hint about where she might find her mother.

it's no wonder she's spending her time in the shooting range, going through boxes of ammunition as she practices (attack 15, 24, 16, 17, 15). the shots go off in clusters, and most of them land in or around the center of the target's chest, though one drifts up to go straight through the paper cutout's head.

she lowers her gun, exasperated with the few shots that didn't make their mark, and strips off her protective earmuffs, setting the gun on the counter in front of her and turning away. her hands find her hips and she paces. she'd rather spend time here than in the rest of the castle, and she'd certainly rather spend time here than in her room where she can just be reminded of the lingering bitterness about what she'd found there earlier this year. ]

[It only takes a few questions to get the location of his squire and Gold hangs back until the sound of the bullets have stopped. Once he's positive she isn't going to try for another round, he steps into the doorway.]

Might I have a word? Assuming you're done taking out your aggression on the targets, that is.

Depending what the word is, I might just take it out on something else.

[ like you. in case that was too subtle. she folds her arms over her chest, straightening her back. ]

[Because what Emma needs in her life right now is an emotionally stunted blonde... one she doesn't have to look at in the mirror, Lila is leaning against the door frame watching the action. She whistles, but its difficult to tell if its in appreciation for her mad skills or in appreciation of the complete and utter overkill. Good money on both.]

Oh, it goes a little further back than today. [ like say her entire life since coming through the veil can she just ragequit this universe pls. she gives a heavy exhale, then drums up a thin smile for lila because she's a kid and emma's all about pushing her own crap down so she can look after theirs. ] You? [ after all, she was here too. she had a feeling lila didn't come looking for emma. ]

[After encountering a mission full of zombie children that wanted to actually eat her, Faye is rethinking her decision to go weaponless on missions. Knives are fun, but require getting up close and personal. While she doesn't mind the idea of that from time to time, keeping her distance will probably keep her cleaner (and safer).

She strolls into the room just after Emma's finished firing off her round of shots. She doesn't really know the woman, except for their one... interesting... encounter. Her lips twitch into a smirk as she watches the blonde pace. Her snarky confidence isn't in full force since she's here in a place to practice something she's not immediately good at, so she keeps any witty comments to herself and just strides over to a nearby station and starts to set up.]

[Hook isn't precisely seeking Emma out when he comes across her shooting. That being said, it doesn't surprise him at all that she's here. He'd come to practice on his own, but he pauses to look at her target, and at Emma herself.]

I'd say you killed him right and proper.

[ attica's just arrived at the castle, and she's scoping out her new digs. she hates the notion of being on the bottom rung of some ladder to climb and being in designated squire rooms sure isn't helping that. there's a reason she enjoyed being her own boss for so long and cutting her own paychecks.

still. she'll be patient, and she'll not complain too much, because at the end of the day - they have something she wants. so she nudges open the door to her room, and arches her eyebrows disdainfully at what she finds. the room is ornate, of course, and certainly looked like it belonged in a castle, but ... ]

The crystal chandelier and bedding hand sewn by three hundred old ladies in Italy who probably went blind not enough for you? [Is that what in her room? Fuck if Lila knows, she hasn't bothered to actually look.]

[ there's an amused posh british accent that pops up from behind her in the hallway ] Well, there's always the option of taking out one's neighbors and expanding horizontally. [ a little dark elf humor to see how much she's into dark elf humor. he really hopes the answer is 'not much', lbr. ]

[Faye is bored. This isn't really anything new, but it should be noted that it doesn't make the matter any less dangerous. She's wandering the castle halls, texting or browsing the internet on her phone.

Surely if she walked around enough or browsed her contacts long enough, someone was bound to help her find some trouble.

Or she would literally run into it because she is definitely not watching where she is going...]

[He rounds a corner, and - Smooth as he ever was - bumps right into Faye, sending books and papers flying everywhere.]

Gah! Dammit all to the nine hells! [He shouts, as the papers clear - then he sees who he's bumped into... Er, I mean - uh... Sorry about that. Narrow hallways...

She raises an eyebrow. The expression seems to read wanna get out of here? She had been willing to spend her day off playing hooky alone, but Faye is a decent second to her own company.]

[Lissa had sent Dimitri a text asking to talk. It was almost a month after his friend's party, but she had been putting it off, distracting herself with other things so she wouldn't have to think about it. But her mission is coming up and she doesn't want to go off with all this weight on her shoulders.

So she sends a text and, when she gets confirmation, heads outside, perching on a bench under the shade of an overhanging tree. A book lays open in her lap, but she isn't reading it, worrying it between her hands as she waits, nervousness creeping up her spine. What she has to tell Dimitri is worse than anything she would have to tell Rose.]

[Dimitri heads out into the garden with a sense of foreboding. It has taken Lissa quite some time to contact him on this matter, and there are very few reasons as to why that would be, none of them particularly good.

Regardless, if telling him what she knows will lift some kind of burden from her shoulders, than he will gladly help her bear it. And if it will lead to discussions between her and Rose in regards to the bond they shared, then all the better.

Whatever it was, it was a world away, or so he thought now. Perhaps he'll change his mind after the knowledge reaches him.

He sits down next to her quietly, regarding the book in her lap.]

[After Thoster has had the chance to re-read the letter that Lila wrote for him, he takes the time to write it in his own hand. Folding the paper into an envelope, he makes his way to her room and slips it under the door.]

Andie,

It was never my intention to lie to you. I start with that because if you cannot continue reading at least you will know that much. I am sorry that my actions have created such difficult times and I accept that it is my fault; I put my duty to the knights before you. Please accept my apology.

Without you in my life it seems the light has gone out of the world, everything has faded and there is no color to me. I am so grateful to have you in my life. You are the smile on my lips, the beat in my heart, and the glimmer in my eye. I can't believe I found someone that is such a perfect match for me.

Even if you cannot accept my apology, know that you are loved and appreciated without condition, and losing you will forever be my biggest mistake. I broke your trust and your faith, perhaps irreversibly. But if there is a chance, even the smallest one, I will try every day to make up for the hurt I caused you, I will spend every day fixing the rift between us, if you could only tell me how.

[He doesn't linger at the door, but just walks to leave the castle walls to get some fresh air. All he can do now is wait.]

[Damn, that's some solid letter writing. Andie reads it over a few dozen times, nearly paced a hole in her floor and ran away to get a carpet to cover it. Read the letter again, threw it in the trash but caught it before it landed and read it again, and finally decided that she just has to talk to him.

All in all it's been almost seven minutes when she approaches Thoster. Seriously, in Andie time that's practically enough time to give up on her showing at all.

She stares at him for a split second before waving the letter at him.]
