Perched at the edge of any civilized lands, the small lumber town of Falcon's Hollow has always had to rely on itself to solve its  problems.  Now the hacking coughs of the sick are heard throughout the town.  The plague has come to the Hollow, and the town is ill equipped to stop it on its own, particularly given its resistance to magic.

That's where the Knights come in, sent to assist a local herbalist in putting together enough supplies to mass produce a cure.

[ the fox puts up no resistance as miles removes it, whimpering pathetically. it's badly injured, its hindquarters slashed and bleeding.

grimrot notices some movement in the nearby tree line, as if they are being watched... ]

[ she can't see the extent of the injuries, but the animal's cries make abigail want to cry. ]

It may be kindest to put it out of it's misery.

[Grimrot frowns and looks up squinting at the tree lines.] There's something out there. [She touches the handle of her mace anxiously.]

[ logan turns towards where grimrot indicates, sniffing the air. ] There. [ pinpointing where whatever it is is hiding serves to freak out whoever it is, apparently, because an arrow comes whizzing out abruptly right at wolvy's chest. and... bounces off him lmao with a clink. logan looks down and growls in irritation, extending both sets of claws and snapping his head back up at the bushes.

with a snarl, he leaps into the foliage, another arrow whizzing by his head before he snatches up whoever's back there in his grip, raising them out of the brush and over his head so that everyone can see the muscular, gray-skinned creature that peers down at him with tiny, frightened eyes. wolverine brings up his other claws to the creature's neck. ]

[ the second logan starts moving, abigail draws one of her knives, moving to stand in front of miles and the fox. that's it though, just moving.

and then what the fuck is that???? abigail does not know (arcane lore check 7) and she's pretty distracted by logan just holding him up by the scruff of his neck like a cat. wow he is strong. ]

Rude! [ YOU CAN'T JUST SHOOT PEOPLE. ]

[Nels draws his weapons, and waits, searching the area quickly with a Spot Check 25.]

Does our rude friend have company?

[ "No, no!" it cries. "Only Grung! Don't kill Grung. He is only hunting." he struggles against wolverine's grip but not too hard b/c those claws are pretty fucking scary no lie ]

Oh dear... [Grimrot rushes over and gives Grung a sympathetic look.] Don't worry, Grung, we won't hurt you. Not if you can... refrain from shooting at us again, anyway. [She looks up at Logan like right, right?] Why were you hunting us? We're hardly good food.

[I mean. Not all of Grimrot's ancestors would agree with that statement. But that's besides the point.]

[ they'd realize now that the monster has a prodigious cleft palate, making some of his words difficult to understand. ] Grung-- Grung just so hungry. Hard to catch food in these woods. Take what he can get.

Were you trying to protect your food from us? [ she gestures to the fox. ]

[ logan scowls, dumping the thing down finally but still keeping one hand curled in a fist with claws pointed at him ] More like that was the bait. Wasn't it, bub? [ the creature squirms and doesn't answer, which is... enough of an answer in and of itself ]

You were torturing that poor fox for bait? [ she was going to offer him some of the food in her pack, but fuck that tbh. learn to be a better hunter. ]

[He didn't really think he could take all of them, did he? Come on now.]

Please, just... let me go, let me go! [ logan's fist moves ever closer to him, and it's clear that he'd rather kill the guy personally ]

Logan. [ it's impossible for abigail to be able to intimidate logan into compliance because, tbh, he scares her, but her tone has a hint of pleading in it. like maybe wait ten minutes before you murder him, please. (diplomacy 17) ] He might be able to help us find everything.

[grimrot]

We certainly don't need to resort to needless bloodshed. [Diplomacy 21, this time directed at the guy.] I'm certain that our friend here can certainly learn the error of his ways. Right? Please help us. We can help you find a more... humane way to find food in the future.

[adamantiumed]

[ he relents readily enough that it becomes clear that he wasn't... actually gonna do it, even if he wanted to. STILL WORKIN WITH THE GOOD GUYS, OK. or something. he retracts the claws, cracking his knuckles by flexing the fist. ] Now would be a good time for him to say he knows where to find the oldest tree in the forest. [ the creature sputters a bit, before shaking his head wildly: "I dun no nuffin' about no tree!" ]

[ abigail is momentarily distracted by watching logan's wounds clear up, but she shakes her head to clear her mind and focuses on the task at hand. ]

What about the dwarven ruins or Ulizmila, do you know anything about them?

[ "Dwarf home! Yes, yes, dwarf home in the mountains. Dark dwarves! Evil." ] I thought the dwarves were long gone. [ "They are, they are. Were evil! Most people don't know." ]

[ abigail squints at him, unsure whether she wants to believe him or not. (sense motive 26) ] But you know where they are? And you'll take us.

[adamantiumed]

[ he sounds like he's telling the truth! "Can tell you! Don't make me go there," he sobs. logan rolls his eyes. ] We don't need to drag him along waiting for him to stab us in the back. 'Sides, the mountains are the furthest thing out, if that guy was right.

[theminotaur]

[ but but but cannon fodder. maybe it's for the best she doesn't say that out loud, tbh, instead seeming to shrug without actually moving her shoulders. ]

See if he can mark it on the map. If not, we should just get moving.

[ logan yanks out the map in clear irritation, as if this is a waste of time, and holds it out to the creature. ] Where?

[ it studies it with buggy eyes for a moment trying to make sense of it, before stabbing it with a nail at the base of the mountains. "Here, here." ]
